Awesome video but my question is, do we finally have worthy rotary mechanics here in Polk County?

Mike Van Steenburg @ ISC out of Winter Haven built my first 13b motor, but he charged WAY TOO MUCH in my opinion, but I was 16 and money didn't matter then.

I got rid of my Rx7 due to not knowing how to rebuild myself and the lack of local people willing to give out knowledge. I miss my 7's. (I have had 3 or 4 of them) :(

Russ i have been in the rotary game about 10 years or so, this car i have had about 8 years now, and IMO unles yoiu are loaded with cash, willing to constantly replace long blocks thats cost alot to build and generally take your car apart and put it back together alot, rx7s are NOT for you.

myself im pretty much done with the wankels not due to being bored with them its not financially realistic for me to keep messing with them, they are inherently unreliable engines when you exceed factory HP outputs and parts for them have dried up completely, unless you have major $$ for what few NOS parts are left here and there, and you can trash a $5k rebuild in a weekend if for one milisecond your engine isnt happy with your fuel or timing settings, so for me, being poor, im gonna put a piston engine in it, that will last for 50-75,000 miles of torture, vs 2-4,000 miles if your treat it somewhat nice...

mike at ISC is pretty much in the same mindset as i am, i know him well, he doesnt even really do engines any more since parts are so scarce and $$$ no one is rebuilding them, they are moving to spec miata, or transplanting other engines in thier car and running different classes.
mike will still do engines, but as any rotary shop is, its pricey, kilo in orlando is also reputable but also pricey, the only way a working man can have these engines is build them yourself, but keep in mind, its around 600 bucks in basic rebuild parts for any 2 rotor, 12a or 13b, that doesnt include any machine work or porting that may be needed for your application. i do all my own work and it still costs about 600 bucks to go through one, if all it needs is soft parts and apex seals.
rotary guys arent selfish with knowledge, you just talking to the wrong ppl, we all like to teach each other, i can hook you up with a good bunch of guys in kissimee/orlando area, and ill always try to help

That is awesome to hear, not the scarce parts and the money part, I figured the money part though I spent 5k having it bridge ported, polished, completely rebuilt etc. back in 06' but times have changed with a wife and baby. I bought a Miata after my Rx-7 because of my love for Mazdas. (Before the baby was here.) Mike worked on it a couple times, then I rebuilt the motor myself. I loved it as well until the baby showed up and I ended up in another Honda. Lol

i have a miata as well, nothing fancy, just a plain stock 90, only mod is full stainless exhaust/header because the original fell apart :D good work car, cheap in every way.

you could always be cool and drive a 2+2 FB, you can get away with that till the kid is about 12 or so hehehehe just be prepared to either spend months hunting expensive parts, and spending the $$ to get them, or since the chassis is simple to work with, pick a piston engine of choice and put something in it you can drive across the nation without worry.
an FB with miata 1.8 would be nice...just saying...

Yea, definitely. I wanted to Rotary swap my Miata at first until the reliability issues came to mind, then I wanted to RB swap it and once I started saving, I didn't wear a latex, and then I got the I think I'm late text. Lol
