build is starting on my lexus 4.0 DOHC all aluminum v8 transplant into my 85 rx7, i do not yet know if this is going to be something doable by many, but it looks like anyone with above average mechanical ability can pull this off, the areas of main concern lie in the steering needing to be converted to rack and pinion (needs that anyway, 1st gen steering sucks) and the hood clearance around the front of the engine, looking like its going to need a notched oil pan and possibly some mods to the crossmember to allow the front of the engine to drop down enough.

for the inquiring minds at this time i do not have any pics taken, or anything worth taking pics of really, just a half torn down engine and car, but ill provide pics as things go together.

i will be adapting the turbo2 rx7 transmission/flywheel/clutch myself to save me the cost of the supra transmission conversion parts since i can make my own parts to adapt it, it will at some point be turbocharged, though it may come out N/A for the first trials to shake the kinks out

at this time i know the 1uzfe engine weighs just over 400lbs complete but stripped of uneccesary fat, like power steering etc.

i will provide the weight of the complete rotary assembly when i get the scale again

this should make for an interesting combo, since it wont be gaining much if any weight, the rpm range of the 1uzfe is near as make no difference the same as the turbo 12a, i turn the 12a 8k rpm, and with good rods and pistons i can turn the 1uz 8k rpm...stock i can stil get 6800+ so its not much different.
the torque of the 1uz is immense by comparison to the wankel as well, since it has a nice flat torque band starting at 200 ish ft lbs at 1k rpm....and peaking at ??? with the turbo... vs nothing to speak of untill 5k rpm then unloading everything on the tires at once of the wankel....
the car is going to take on a whole new personality for sure and should be alot more fun and easier to drive, get better MPG and in the end be alot faster, and most importantly...baring any unforseen errors on my part...last a long time and START!!!

stay tuned, this will not be a fast build as im very limited on funds, but steady as it goes it will get done.

if anyone out there has any questions of info feel free to ask or submit, i can even help you with you rotary problems, im just not interested in having them anymore hehehehe

ill work on some pics, but honestly there isnt much to show atm, just tearing stuff apart right now and making a mess :D i will show fab pics and fitment issues as they come in...and there is gonna be plenty of that...

i weighed the rotary assembly tonight, 340+lbs(scale is 10 lbs increment), the uz will add about 50 lbs to the car with a turbo after i make a sheet metal intake and shed the intercooler that wont fit anymore. the stock intake is aluminum but very heavy and too tall, so gonna have to make my own, it will weigh MUCH less, probably making up for alot of the turbo weight, so i dont predict having to even adjust my coils. much less worry about car balance.

incidently once this thing is rolling if someone knows anyone with 4 wheel scales to see the balance i would love to weigh it that way...

ill have it mocked together pretty soon and grab some pics of that, gotta do a "bench test" to make sure the mazda starter will roll that bastard over....if it doesnt...dunno...ill worry about that if it happens lol

im waiting on the steering conversion parts and i will get some pics of that whole process once i start

this is going to be a long process....that engine is not gonna fit willingly.....then i have to find a place for the turbo...wheeee
